The details

Ariel is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse which is located on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. There are wonderful safe beaches, many of which have been awarded the coveted blue flag. In particular, there is Ogmore-by-Sea (just over 4 miles away), Barry Island, Southerndown and Porthcawl, which are particularly good for windsurfing.

Inside you’ll find space for five, with three beautifully simple, white bedrooms arranged as a double, a twin and a single room. There is also a family bathroom. The kitchen comes fully equipped, with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher, plus there’s a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There’s an elegant dining space for you all to enjoy meals together, and a cosy living room with an electric wood burner, TV, DVD and CD player. Outside you’ll find a fully enclosed garden, perfect for kids or dogs to run around in, plus garden furniture for dining outside on balmy days. There’s also onsite parking for two cars.

If you’re bringing young children, a travel cot and a high chair can be provided.

A short drive away (just over 8 miles) Cowbridge offers a good range of shops with small boutiques, craft and art galleries, excellent restaurants and pubs. Further along the coast is the famous Gower peninsula and walking on the Mumbles. There are also plenty of beaches to enjoy. The lighthouse is open to the public from Saturday 7th April until Sunday 30th September (weather permitting), if you would like to view the lighthouse, book ahead by calling 07850 047721.

For children, a visit to Barry Island Pleasure Park and the Quaser Centre is a must. Whilst St Donats Art Centre offers exhibitions, cinema, dance, theatre, music as well as children's events. And if you’re interested in exploring the Welsh way of life, what could be better than a trip to The Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans, only 20 minutes away.
