The details
In the most serene of settings – on the banks of beautiful Loch Alsh, no less – Avernish Lodge provides the true peace and quiet you’ve been longing for. There’s room for 4 to enjoy the impressive interior and views which extend to the surrounding hills. Just a few miles from the Isle of Skye, it is clear that Avernish Lodge has been styled with great care. A swish bathroom with spacious walk-in shower sets the luxurious tone of the rest of the property. The two king-size bedrooms are not only elegant, but benefit from direct access to the terrace outside. Opening the curtains to views like these is a fine way to start the day. The main living area creates more enticing spaces. Large and open-plan, there’s underfloor heating and a log-burning stove keeping things cosy. Next to temptingly comfy sofas, there’s Sky TV and Wi-Fi, plus an armchair perfectly placed for sitting back and enjoying the view. A dining area with solid wood dining table and tall chairs complements a fully equipped kitchen, while the patio with table and chairs is an irresistible breakfast spot. With no traffic for miles, all you will hear is the sound of the local wildlife. Walking, hiking and mountain-biking are all popular activities in the area, and no wonder. If you have the stamina, you could explore the 40km cycle loop to Plockton, a charming village on the shores of Loch Carron where you will find some great restaurants. You could even take a cruise to do some seal-spotting, and it’s a popular spot for photographers too. Dating back to the 13th century, Eilean Donan Castle is an amazing local landmark you won’t want to miss. Located at the point where 3 lochs meet, the surroundings are genuinely spectacular, so make sure you take your camera. In the opposite direction, the village Kyle of Lochalsh is around 7 miles away, forming the gateway to the Isle of Skye beyond, another must-visit. With all this natural beauty on the doorstep, your time at Avernish Lodge will be an unforgettable experience – this is stunning Scotland at its very best.
