The details

Lane Cottage is a small, rustic, south-facing cottage set within the rolling landscape of Mawgan Porth. It opens through French doors onto a lawn with wide, uninterrupted views across the Lanherne Valley and out to the sea beyond. From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense of space, light and quiet that feels wonderfully grounding.

Part of a collection of traditional stone buildings that once formed a working farm, the cottage retains a beautifully simple, unfussy charm. Inside, the living area is warm and welcoming, with elm floors underfoot, a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings and an open-plan kitchen that keeps everything easy and relaxed. East and south-facing windows flood the space with natural light throughout the day, making it a bright and uplifting place to spend time, whether you’re cooking, reading or simply gazing out at the view.

Opening off the living room is a snug double bedroom, perfectly placed for restful nights after days spent exploring the Cornish coast. From here, a short, steep, narrow cupboard staircase leads up to a low, sloping-ceilinged attic room with two single beds. With its sea view and tucked-away feel, this space is especially suited to children, adding a sense of adventure to bedtime. The cottage also includes a small bathroom fitted with a bath, shower and WC.

Outside, Lane Cottage has its own private garden and a wildflower terrace, reached via small stone steps. There’s a fire pit here too, ideal for evenings spent under the open sky, watching the light fade across the valley. Parking is nearby, keeping arrival and departure refreshingly simple.

The garden itself is rustic and natural, bordered by a dry stone wall with several openings and no gates, which adds to the cottage’s unfenced, countryside feel. The owners live in a nearby cottage on the same lane and are on hand during your stay should you need local tips or information.

Mawgan Porth offers a wonderful mix of coastal walks, wide beaches and peaceful countryside. Spend your days wandering cliff paths, dipping into the sea or exploring the surrounding farmland, before returning to Lane Cottage to light the fire, open the French doors and settle into the gentle rhythm of this quietly special place.
