The details
There’s something instantly special about arriving at Dillington Farmhouse. Set within the historic Dillington Estate and overlooking sweeping parkland, this beautifully renovated thatched farmhouse pairs timeless Somerset character with relaxed, contemporary luxury. It’s a place made for long conversations, shared meals and unrushed days spent together in the countryside. Inside, the house feels wonderfully generous. Original stone fireplaces, exposed beams and blue lias stone floors give a strong sense of heritage, softened by thoughtful styling and modern comforts throughout. Underfloor heating and glowing log burners make the living spaces warm and inviting, perfect for returning to after muddy walks across the estate or lazy afternoons outdoors. At the heart of the house is a superb kitchen designed with sociable stays in mind. A large central island, double ovens and an American-style fridge freezer make cooking for a crowd feel effortless, while plenty of crockery and glassware mean everyone can gather without compromise. The elegant dining room seats all 18 guests around a grand mahogany table, creating a natural hub for celebrations, feasts and lingering breakfasts. When the weather allows, outdoor seating for the same number invites long alfresco lunches with views across the park. Dillington Farmhouse offers nine beautifully appointed ensuite bedrooms, sleeping up to 18 guests in total. Most feature flexible zip-and-link beds that can be arranged as twins or super-king size beds, with one twin-only room. Every bedroom has its own character but shares the same indulgent level of comfort, from deep mattresses and 400 thread count cotton bedding to fluffy towels and bathrobes that make mornings slow and luxurious. Outside, guests have their own private garden alongside access to the wider estate grounds, where parkland walks and big skies are part of everyday life. Despite the peaceful setting, excellent pubs and local attractions are close by. The Barrington Boar is within walking distance, while Barrington Court, local cider makers and the market town of Ilminster offer plenty to explore. For longer days out, the Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis and the Hauser & Wirth gallery near Bruton are all within easy reach.
