The details

This is a truly one-of-a-kind stay in the spectacular Finnish countryside that offers groups of up to 10 guests the chance to stay in a decommissioned SAAB 340B passenger airplane. This unique lodge sits around the aircraft, and the stay encompasses parts of the plane itself alongside the modern accompanying building.

Airplane Lodge Ilmatar has been carefully designed for your enjoyment, making it ideal for a family getaway or a celebratory trip with friends. The story of Ilmatar began in the autumn of 2022, when a SAAB 340B passenger airplane appeared for sale at an auction. What started as a bold idea soon transformed into a remarkable project: converting the old aircraft into a luxury lodging site.

And when you arrive, you’ll be blown away by what the owners have created, with a cosy seating and dining space within the plane’s cabin, and other fab hangout areas in the accompanying lodge. You’ll also love the spacious terrace, where you can soak in your spectacular surroundings from the comfort of your private outdoor jacuzzi. There is also a BBQ out here, alongside some outdoor seating.

To top it off, you can also choose between a traditional wood-burning sauna in the air traffic control tower or a one-of-a-kind airplane sauna built directly into the fuselage.

Inside, there are some superb bedrooms on offer. The Captain’s Suite, located in the cockpit of the airplane, accommodates two guests who can admire the starlit sky through the cockpit windows before drifting off to sleep in soft linens. In the cabin, a convertible sofa bed provides additional space for two guests. The Skyline Granary Room offers a peaceful retreat for two under a breathtaking celestial canvas, while the upper floor of the air traffic control tower houses two bedrooms with panoramic views of the changing countryside.

To complement the accommodations, the property also features a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy lounge with a projector and sound system, where you can unwind together in peace, catching up over a drink or settle in for a movie night or box-set marathon.

In Uurainen and the surrounding Central Finland region, nature and culture come together to offer unforgettable experiences. Explore diverse outdoor trails year-round, or rent bikes and snowshoes for independent adventures through forests and lakeside landscapes. Central Finland, with its 3,700 lakes and four national parks, is also known as the Land of Saunas and home to two UNESCO sites. For history lovers, the Finnish Air Force Museum in nearby Tikkakoski showcases aviation heritage through authentic aircraft, engines and exhibitions.
