The details
Step into Joe’s Cottage – a lovingly restored 18th-century home in the peaceful Lakeland village of Brigsteer. Once belonging to a much-loved local farmer, this cottage now combines centuries-old character with elegant, contemporary design, creating a retreat full of warmth, charm and thoughtful touches. With its original beams, hand-carved stone fireplaces and picture windows overlooking the Lyth Valley, it’s the perfect spot to relax, recharge and soak up the quiet beauty of the Lake District. Inside, the cottage flows with natural light and texture. The spacious living room invites you to unwind by the glowing AGA wood-burning fire, a fine centrepiece for cosy evenings after a day on the fells. A pair of plush sofas and a swivel armchair make this an inviting space for long, lazy evenings with a book or a film. The heart of the home is the kitchen and dining room — once the old farmhouse kitchen. This fab space is now fitted with a contemporary range of integrated appliances, under-beam lighting and a large wooden table for six. This is an ideal spot for long hearty feasts whether you’re sharing breakfast with sunlight spilling through the window seats or a delicious dinner after a walk to the local pub. Upstairs, two beautiful ensuite bedrooms ensure peaceful nights. The main bedroom features a king-size bed beneath oak beams and a sleek walk-in shower. The second has a super king-size bed that can be arranged as twins, along with a bath and overhead shower. Luxurious linens, natural Pure Lakes toiletries and deep, restful colours create an atmosphere of quiet indulgence. Step outside onto the sunlit patio and you’ll find yourself surrounded by glorious views of the Lyth Valley and the distant fells. The garden, once a cobbled farmyard, now buzzes with birds and bees, while the glass balustrade and cushioned chairs make this an idyllic spot to sip morning coffee or watch the sky turn rose gold at sunset. On clear nights, wrap up in one of the provided blankets and stargaze – Brigsteer’s unlit lanes mean the constellations are dazzling. When you’re ready to explore, numerous scenic walks start right from your doorstep. Wander up to Scout Scar for sweeping panoramas, stroll to the friendly Wheatsheaf Inn for local ales or take a short drive to Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside or the literary charm of Cartmel. Joe’s Cottage is an invitation to slow down and savour the best of Lakeland life.
