The details

When you first set eyes on this atmospheric, medieval tower, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fairy tale. Part of an Italian renaissance inspired 18th-century chateau, the impressive architecture, grand terraces and swooping stone balustrades are sure to take your breath away.

Sitting in a picturesque valley, the tower offers magnificent views of the impressive chateau gardens and surrounding French countryside. As well as your own private terrace, you’ll have access to the grounds and the chateau’s shared facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis court and outdoor table tennis table.

The tower itself is packed full of character with lots of traditional features, including exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and tiled floors. The homely lounge, with its comfortable sofas and impressive fireplace, is the perfect spot to sit and relax.

When you’re feeling hungry, head to the terracotta-tiled kitchen where you’ll find everything you need to cater for your group, as well as a large wooden table for indoor dining. On sunny days, you can throw open the doors onto the terrace for easy alfresco eating, and for an authentic feast, be sure to include some fresh produce from the local bakery.

Heading up the steep wooden stairs, you’ll discover the three bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, and a shower room. Each room boasts magnificent vistas so everyone will wake up to a wonderful view – the perfect way to start the day.

Outside, the tower has a private terrace, with outdoor sofas and a dining table and chairs. Tucked away from the chateau, this secluded spot, with views of the well-kept gardens, is a peaceful place to curl up with a good book or soak up the sun. And if you want a change of scene, simply stroll to the shared swimming pool for a refreshing dip or to relax on a poolside lounger.

With countless countryside hiking trails on your doorstep, and a bakery and restaurant within walking distance, you may choose not to wander far from the tower, but if you do want to explore, the hilltop town of Angoulême and the riverside village of Brantôme are just a 30-minute drive away.

Spent 10 lovely days at La Tour, it is ideally located within the beautiful French countryside if you want a relaxing break. The facilities within the chateau are very good with lots to do for children and adult’s alike. Sarah was the perfect host and we look forward to booking again in the future.
