The details

Le Moulin sur Célé is the kind of place that makes you slow down the moment you arrive. A beautifully restored riverside mill set deep in the Célé valley of southwest France, this is a generous, soul-soothing retreat where long lunches drift into evening swims and days are shaped by the rhythm of the river. With cliffs rising behind you, water glinting through the trees and terraces made for lingering, it feels wonderfully private and deeply peaceful.

Sleeping up to 10 guests across two characterful stone buildings, Le Moulin is ideal for families and friends who want space, comfort and the joy of being together without ever feeling on top of one another. The Miller’s House is the heart of the home, with a warm family sitting room centred around a grand fireplace, an elegant dining room overlooking the garden and a beautifully equipped farmhouse kitchen. The La Cornue range, copper pans and generous island make this a place where cooking becomes part of the holiday ritual, whether you are preparing relaxed breakfasts or welcoming a private chef for a celebratory feast.

Across the wide interconnecting terrace sits The Tower, a wonderfully atmospheric space designed for evenings well spent. A cocktail bar and cosy lounge with a statement fireplace invite pre-dinner drinks, music and conversation, while French doors open straight onto the pool terrace for moonlit swims and late-night chats.

Five ensuite bedrooms are spread across the two buildings, each individually styled and thoughtfully designed for comfort. Air conditioning, overhead fans and mosquito nets ensure restful nights, while river views, exposed beams and soft fabrics add to the sense of calm. One bedroom sits on the ground floor, making it ideal for guests who prefer easy access, while the tower bedrooms offer elevated views and a little extra drama, especially the top-floor suite tucked beneath the rafters.

Outside, life unfolds at a leisurely pace. Swim in the private heated pool framed by sky and stone, dine beneath the wisteria-covered pergola, wander down to the river for a paddle or gather around the riverside fire pit as the sun dips behind the valley. With gardens, a grass tennis court, croquet lawn, classic bicycles and plenty of quiet corners, there is space here for both shared moments and peaceful solitude.

When you do venture out, the Célé valley rewards curiosity with honey-stone villages, local markets, walking trails and exceptional food. Canoe along the river, explore nearby medieval towns or simply settle into a café and watch French life drift by. Whether you are celebrating something special or simply carving out time together, Le Moulin sur Célé offers a deeply memorable French country escape.
