The details

Set amidst the Isle of Skye’s dramatic coastal landscape, Moll Cottage is a historic keeper’s cottage located on a stretch of private shoreline. Perched on the water’s edge below the Cuillin mountains, the rugged scenery is simply breathtaking and you’ll be able to sit out by the firepit in the evening just taking it all in. You’ll have plenty of peace and quiet as the road to the cottage, once the main route to the north of the island, is now mostly used by walkers and cyclists in search of the beautiful views. This makes it the perfect setting for a romantic escape well away from the hustle and bustle.

Inside the cottage, you’ll find plenty of Scottish and Scandinavian influences in the interior decor. A neutral colour palette, wood accents, cosy fabrics and a log burner create a warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon as you step inside. In the front room, you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up hearty dinners after long walks along the shore and through the hills. The dining table is set in front of the window where you can soak up the views across the water and out to the islands or Raasay and Scalpay.

After dinner, get the log burner going and plot tomorrow’s adventures using the maps and guide books on the shelves or put your feet up in front of a film. The bedroom has a luxurious king size bed made up with crisp white bed linen and features a cosy little reading nook. There’s a large shower in the bathroom and you’ll find everything you need to sort out your outdoor kit in the cloakroom.

There’s plenty to do on the Isle of Skye and the cottage is within easy travelling distance of the most popular sights. Experienced walkers won’t be able to resist heading into mountains and tackling one of the Cuillin’s summits. For those less confident, the famous Old Man of Storr is just up the coast and the walk to the top will reward you with some spectacular views. The cottage is set between the two largest settlements on the island, Portree and Broadford, both about 25 minutes drive away. There are boat trips out from Portree which offer one of the most reliable ways to spot Britain’s largest bird of prey, the Sea Eagle.
