The details
Poldhu is a small yet perfectly formed Cornish retreat, a beautifully crafted shepherds hut hidden within a tiny hamlet on the peaceful rural outskirts of Newlyn and Penzance. Wrapped in lush greenery and serenaded by birdsong, it’s a wonderfully restorative hideaway for two, ideal for slow mornings, lazy afternoons and starlit evenings in true Cornish calm. A rustic walkway of stone steps winds its way up through tropical planting, creating a sense of discovery as you approach the hut. When the garden lights flicker on at dusk, the whole setting feels magical – a private oasis where you can pour a G&T, settle into the warmth of the evening and listen to dinner sizzling away on the gas BBQ. The generous deck at the front is your own outdoor living room, with a bistro set, bench, parasol and space to stretch out under the sunshine. Inside, Poldhu is warm, bright and beautifully considered. Wood panelling and soft natural textures create an inviting atmosphere while the windows frame leafy views that make you feel blissfully removed from the everyday. The compact open plan space has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There’s a cosy dining table for two, a Smart TV for easy movie nights and a well-equipped kitchenette tucked neatly to one side. You’ll find a fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and portable induction hob stored in a drawer, perfect for whipping up simple meals before heading out to explore. At the far end, the snug bedroom nook promises restful nights with its comfy double bed, soft lighting and calming touches. A modern separate shower room completes the space, offering a refreshing start to each day with its walk-in shower and heated towel rail. Step beyond your garden haven and you’re perfectly placed to explore some of West Cornwall’s best spots. Polgoon Vineyard is only a few minutes away and offers tastings in a gorgeous orchard setting. Trewidden Garden sits close by too, with winding pathways through rare plants and ancient trees. Newlyn, with its fantastic restaurants and thriving art scene, is just five minutes from your door, while neighbouring Penzance offers a heated lido, galleries, independent shops and handsome historic streets. Head west and you’ll reach Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s prettiest coastal villages, full of cobbled lanes and stunning sea views. Walkers will love the nearby South West Coast Path, especially the dramatic stretch to Lamorna Cove. For a truly unforgettable day out, travel a little further to Porthcurno where turquoise waters meet white sands and the iconic open-air Minack Theatre clings to the cliffs above the Atlantic.
