The details
Porth Chapel Cabin delivers that instant exhale feeling from the moment you arrive – a secluded, stylish hideout made for two, tucked within a quiet hamlet just outside Penzance and Newlyn. With the coast a mere four minutes away and a backdrop of rolling countryside, it’s the sort of retreat where slow mornings, long lunches and cosy evenings unfold effortlessly. Step inside and you’re greeted by cool contemporary design woven together with rustic charm. Unique reclaimed fittings – including lighting salvaged from a well-known Penzance hotel – pair with chunky wooden doors, warm panelling and exposed brick to bring a sense of history and heart to the space. The open plan layout creates an easy flow, perfect for unwinding side by side. Sink into the two armchairs beside the crackling log burner, cue up something special on the huge Smart TV or turn up the music with the surround-sound system as you settle in for the evening. The perfectly formed kitchen has everything you need for simple breakfasts or romantic suppers, while the dining table offers a lovely spot for lingering over a glass of wine. When it’s time to rest, the big brass bed promises deeply comfortable nights and lazy lie-ins with the morning light filtering through. Warm and welcoming in every season, the cabin is just as magical outside. A sprawling deck wraps around the front, furnished with sun loungers, a dining set and a gas BBQ for alfresco feasts on sunny days. As dusk settles, wrap up and step outside with a glass of bubbly to watch the stars appear above the quiet countryside. The local area is rich with places to explore. Wander through the orchards and tasting rooms of Polgoon Vineyard or visit the enchanting Trewidden Garden just up the lane. Newlyn is only minutes away and brimming with brilliant eateries and an exciting arts scene, while nearby Penzance offers a heated lido and handsome historic architecture. For postcard-worthy views, venture to Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s prettiest harbour villages, where seafood lunches and sea-sprayed strolls await. Walkers will love the South West Coast Path, especially the stunning stretch between Mousehole and Lamorna Cove. Trengwainton Garden, just ten minutes from the cabin, offers blissful dog-friendly grounds to explore. And for a breathtaking day out, head a little further to the white sands of Porthcurno where the world-famous Minack Theatre sits carved into the cliffs with the Atlantic glittering below.
