The details
With a wonderful coastal location, Shingle Lodge offers up to four people a peaceful and charming stay by the sea overlooking a picturesque beach. On the outside, you’ll love the towering nearby cliffs and the sea lapping against the shore below you, and when you step inside you’ll find a bright and airy home with huge windows framing the wonderful coastal views. The fab lounge, in the open-plan living space, is a great spot to sit with a morning coffee in one of the wing-backed armchairs or on the comfy sofa. Light the wood-burning fireplace and stay toasty and warm whatever the weather outside as you make the most of the views through the giant sliding glass doors. On warmer days, slide these doors open and step out onto your private deck, where some comfy alfresco seating sets the scene for social afternoon drinks in the summer sunshine. The lounge also features a wall-mounted TV and a quaint dining table that comfortably seats four, as well as underfloor heating and remote-controlled blinds on the skylight window. When tummies rumble, you can cook up a feast in the nicely equipped kitchen, which has all the appliances and amenities you need. You can then dine together at the dining table in the living space, or take your meals outside on the deck whilst breathing in the fresh sea air. Shingle Lodge is ideal for couples or families. Both of its stylish bedrooms are ensuite and can be prepared with either a super-king size bed or two singles, offering plenty of flexibility. For families with three children, an additional child under 18 months can be accommodated in a cot. The cottage also features a light and bright bathroom that has a nice bathtub sitting next to a window, so you can enjoy a relaxing soak whilst gazing out at the scenery beyond. Just a stone’s throw from Shingle Lodge lies a hidden sandy beach, perfect for a leisurely morning stroll or a family day of fun. Adults can simply kick back and take in the ever-changing views across the Irish Sea, while little explorers can hunt for hermit crabs, sea slugs and the myriad of creatures tucked away in the rockpools that fringe the bay. Shingle Lodge sits tucked away in the tranquil Port o’Spittal Bay, in the heart of rural Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway. Just three miles down the coast is Portpatrick, a picture-postcard harbour village with charming shops, cosy pubs and a putting green for a bit of gentle competition. A little further afield, Stranraer – seven miles from the lodge – offers all the conveniences you might need, from supermarkets and cafes to a museum, library, and a leisure centre. The coastline here is nothing short of spectacular, dotted with quaint towns, hidden beaches, and rugged headlands. Behind it, the Galloway Hills rise dramatically, providing a breathtaking backdrop for walks and adventures.
