The details
Set on the banks of the beautiful Coniston Water and with 100 metres of private lake frontage, Tanglewood is the perfect spot for a relaxing retreat in the Lake District. Head down to the water’s edge and start the day with a refreshing swim or set off for a paddle in a canoe from one of the two private jetties. After a day walking in the fells or exploring charming villages, put your feet up in the sitting room and soak up the lake views through the entirely glazed wall. Enjoy a BBQ out in the garden before snuggling up in front of the wood burning stove and planning tomorrow’s adventures. On the ground floor, you’ll find the huge kitchen and dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, helping you make the most of that spectacular view. The space is flooded with natural light and on warmer days, you can open up the bi-fold doors onto the terrace and step outside to enjoy your meals alfresco. There’s also a cosy lounge on the ground floor with big comfy sofas where you can curl up and get stuck into a good book with a fire crackling away in the background. Head upstairs to find the second living area with its stunning south-facing views through the full-height windows. You can step straight out onto the upper terrace or snuggle up on the sofas and stay cosy indoors with a fire going in the log burner. There are five characterful bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms and all with features such as patio doors leading out onto the terrace or decorative fireplaces and vaulted ceilings. When the sun is shining, you’ll be drawn outdoors to explore the sprawling gardens that encompass patios, lawns, woodland and the private section of lake shore. Relax on the terrace as lunch cooks on the BBQ, enjoy a cocktail as the evening draws in or head down to the water to soak up the view and have a go at some watersports. If you can tear yourselves away from your private lakeside retreat, there’s plenty of exploring to do right on your doorstep. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Old Man of Coniston offers a famous walking trail that will reward you with stunning panoramic views over the lakes. For a more leisurely route, Tarn Hows offers a scenic trail through the nearby woodland. Visiting the historic Coniston village is a must with its charming collection of pubs, cafes and shops and you can take a ride on the Victorian steam-powered yacht that offers cruises on the lake. The famous Windermere is also just a short drive away for more picturesque scenery along with the bustling market town of Ambleside with its boutique shops, galleries and restaurants.
