The details

Escape to the southern-most tip of the Isle of Wight and settle into this beautifully converted Victorian cow barn, set on a friendly farmstead surrounded by National Trust land, fern-fringed cliffs and some of the island’s most spectacular walking. With huge sea views filtering through the trees, a fresh Scandi feel and the coast path right on your doorstep, this is a place where days unfold at a gentler pace.

Step inside and you’ll find a wonderfully practical entrance hall with heaps of space for muddy boots, coats and walking gear – ideal after long coastal rambles. The open-plan living space feels calm and contemporary, warmed by underfloor air source heating and a wood-burner with logs supplied for cosy evenings in. Sink into the sofa with a book or flick on the TV when it’s time to slow right down.

French doors open onto a terrace made for alfresco meals, with a south-facing garden beyond where you can sit with a coffee and glimpse the sea peeping through the trees. The kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed self-catering, whether that’s lazy breakfasts or supper after the pub. The bathroom is downstairs, while upstairs you’ll find two inviting bedrooms along with a handy additional loo.

Buddle Place sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and right on the coastal path, making it a dream base for walkers and nature lovers. Dramatic plunging cliffs, lush vegetation and a warm microclimate define this stretch of coast. You can stroll down to Castlehaven harbour for a refreshing dip, walk five miles to atmospheric Steephill Cove for paddling and fresh crab, or head to Ventnor Botanic Garden for trails, views and a relaxed lunch.

Families are well placed for Blackgang Chine, Ventnor and the classic sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin, all within easy reach. And just two minutes from your door is the legendary Buddle Inn, a 16th-century smugglers’ haunt serving hearty food, real ales and excellent Sunday roasts. Ask the owner about ferry discounts before you travel.
