The details

Perched high above the Sound of Mull, The Captain’s Cabin is a beautifully compact, elliptical hideaway with jaw-dropping views that stretch across to Tobermory and out towards the open sea. Designed for those who dream of seclusion and sea breezes, this ingeniously crafted cabin brings together everything learned from its much-loved neighbours, AirShip 002 and PilotHouse PH5, both of which share the same magical four-acre site.

Step inside and you’ll find a nautically inspired saloon and galley, filled with clever design touches that make small-scale living both stylish and effortless. The galley kitchen is well-equipped for rustling up simple suppers, while the saloon is the perfect place to watch the ever-changing skies roll over Mull. Beyond, the cosy bedroom comes with a king size bed dressed in soft linens, while the compact shower room completes the set-up – practical, elegant and comfortable in equal measure.

What makes The Captain’s Cabin particularly special is its private balcony, which extends across the flat roof of the Old Chapel below. Outfitted with classic steamer chairs, this is a spot made for lazy mornings with coffee or evening sundowners as the sun dips behind the hills. And while it feels wonderfully remote, you’ll be cocooned in warmth inside, thanks to underfloor heating, triple glazing and a toasty wood stove. To top it off, the cabin runs on 100% renewable electricity, is highly insulated, and even the water comes fresh and delicious from the property’s own spring – sustainable comfort at its best.

The setting is as remarkable as the cabin itself. Drimnin lies at the very end of 12 miles of single-track road from Lochaline, which is itself tucked deep into the Highlands. It’s one of the most remote corners of Scotland, and all the better for it – a place where the journey is part of the adventure. With the cabin perched on the north-east shore of the Sound of Mull, you’ll have uninterrupted views across the water, with colourful Tobermory twinkling almost opposite.

When it comes to things to do, the area brims with possibilities. Explore dramatic coastal walks right from your door, head to Tobermory by ferry for its famous harbourfront, or venture further afield to discover white sandy beaches and wildlife spotting opportunities – think sea eagles, dolphins and red deer. Whether you’re stargazing under some of the clearest skies in the UK or simply soaking in the silence, The Captain’s Cabin promises an unforgettable Highland escape.
