The details
Sitting proudly across the road from the shimmering waters of Loch Fyne, Old Schoolhouse is a characterful former schoolhouse with big views, generous space and a wonderfully relaxed rural atmosphere. Detached, private and surrounded by around an acre of land, this is the kind of place where days drift by slowly, shaped by light on the loch, crackling fires and long evenings outdoors. Inside, the house unfolds across spacious, well-considered rooms, all finished with beautiful handmade soft furnishings that add warmth and texture throughout. The living room is made for unwinding, with deep, comfy sofas, a wood burner for cosy nights in and a Smart TV ready for boxsets after a day outside. Just beyond, the wraparound conservatory acts as a light-filled studio and sunroom, offering spectacular loch views, a turntable and vinyl collection, books, board games and space for yoga or a quiet morning coffee. The kitchen is well equipped, centred around a Lacanche range cooker and complemented by a large fridge freezer, dishwasher, air fryer, slow cooker and everything you might need for anything from lazy breakfasts to celebratory feasts. A small kitchen table sits by the window, perfectly placed for watching the loch come to life, while the separate dining room creates a cosy spot for family meals, complete with a playful pinball-style light feature. A handy utility room sits just off the dining room with washing machine, tumble dryer and practical extras for families and dogs. All three bedrooms are upstairs and each enjoys lovely loch views to wake up to. There are two king size bedrooms and a twin room, all dressed in luxurious bedding. The upstairs bathroom features a gorgeous roll-top bath for long soaks, while a separate shower room downstairs adds everyday convenience. Outside, the garden is a real highlight. There’s a patio with seating and a BBQ area, ideal for sunset suppers or even catching a glimpse of the Northern Lights on clear nights. A gentle burn runs through the garden with two small bridges where you can pause and listen to the water, while part of the garden can be securely closed off for dogs. With parking for three to four cars and easy access to the loch for paddleboarding, kayaking or wild swimming, life here naturally spills outdoors. Cumlodden is just eight miles from Inveraray, home to excellent shops, pubs and the much-loved George Hotel. Inveraray Castle and its grounds are a must-visit, recently crowned Historic Houses Garden of the Year 2024. You’re also well placed for exploring Loch Fyne’s renowned food scene, the Cowal Peninsula’s wild coastlines and even island day trips further afield.
