The details

Tucked behind ancient walls and nestled within the lush folds of the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park, The Olive Mill is a soulful escape where Andalusian magic meets rustic elegance. From the moment the gates swing open and the two resident llamas lean in for a curious glance, you know you’ve arrived somewhere special.

Dating back to 1890, this beautifully restored mill sleeps up to 14 guests in seven ensuite bedrooms, each one lovingly named after a rescued donkey. Two bedrooms are downstairs (both ensuite) and the remaining five bedrooms are upstairs. The original olive press still takes pride of place in the grand entrance hall, where soaring beamed ceilings, statement tiles and curated antiques offer an abundance of old-world charm.

You’ll love the interiors of this home, where light pours in through full-height shuttered windows, illuminating everything from the comfy sofas by the roaring stone fireplace to the antique dining table just waiting for a lingering breakfast or sunset supper. This cosy lounge is the ideal place to unwind with loved ones on cooler days.

The kitchen is nicely equipped for preparing delicious meals during your stay and the giant dining hall has huge, high ceilings and an exposed stone wall, setting the scene for epic feasts with your group.

When the sun is shining, head outside and get comfy on the loungers by the side of the pool. You can also take your morning coffee beneath the oaks, dine alfresco beside lemon trees or watch deer drink from the stream at dusk. Then, enjoy an indulgent dip in the pool to cool off in style. After a day by the pool, hop into the wood-fired hot tub for a luxurious soak with a glass of bubbles as the sun begins to set.

Back inside, head upstairs and find seven bedrooms that are all individually styled with iron beds, Egyptian cotton linens and colourful throws, all with views over the gardens, pool and hot tub. One ground-floor bathroom is thoughtfully designed with a grab rail for accessibility.

The Olive Mill is only an hour from Seville, yet a world away. Local life unfolds gently in nearby Higuera de la Sierra, while Aracena’s famous caves are a short drive away. And for a true fairytale flourish, your hosts Simone and Juan will whisk you into town by antique horse-drawn carriage for wine and tapas under the stars.
