The details

Set beneath the sweeping slopes of the Quantock Hills, The Pony Barn is the kind of place where life immediately slows to a gentler rhythm. Once home to ponies at Pardlestone Farm, this beautifully crafted conversion now blends rustic character with thoughtful contemporary comfort. Exposed beams stretch overhead, cool limestone floors run underfoot and underfloor heating keeps everything deliciously warm. Arrive after a blustery walk and you’ll find yourself kicking off muddy boots at the door, pouring a drink and sinking into an evening that seems to unfold effortlessly. Some guests bring their horses with them, and you can often glance them grazing in the nearby fields from the comfort of the barn.

The barn sleeps two in the main bedroom, with space for two more on the pull-out sofa bed in the living area. The super-king size bed can be arranged as twins if needed, making it ideal for couples or friends escaping together and it features a super-comfortable wool Hypnos mattress that all but guarantees you a perfect night's sleep. Wake slowly with morning light filtering in, switch on the TV from beneath the covers or pad through to the ensuite for a refreshing shower. The charming mini-bath is perfect for a long, indulgent soak after a day roaming the hills or exploring the coast. Guests using the sofa bed have their own separate shower room, so everyone can enjoy a little privacy and space.

At the heart of the barn, the open-plan living area invites you to gather and unwind. Brew fresh coffee as sunlight streams through the large windows, sit down together at the dining table for a lazy brunch or cook up a comforting supper in the well-equipped kitchen. With an induction hob, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, everything is designed to make your stay easy. In the evenings, stretch out on the sofa with a film, chat long into the night or simply gaze out at the peaceful views beyond the glass.

Step through the door onto your private enclosed patio and you’ll find a sheltered little suntrap, ideal for alfresco breakfasts or a quiet glass of wine as dusk settles over the fields. With private parking and central heating, The Pony Barn is just as inviting for crisp winter weekends as it is for golden summer escapes.

From your doorstep, the Quantock Hills rise in rolling waves of heath and woodland. Walk stretches of the Coleridge Way, hunt for fossils at Kilve Beach just over a mile away or wander the cobbled streets of Dunster beneath its dramatic castle. Coast, countryside and history are all within easy reach, making The Pony Barn a wonderfully restorative base for discovering this unspoilt corner of Somerset.
