The details

This unique coastal retreat is built within a ‘rock garden’ on the beautiful Isle of Harris in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, overlooking Borve Beach. A tranquil haven for two lucky guests, the five-star property was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural rock terraces which are common on the Island. Its unique exterior comprises of huge stones – the heaviest weighing a whopping 9.5 tonnes – and a turf roof which matches the peaty hills. Secluded and totally private, it is the perfect accommodation for a romantic getaway and a base from which to discover the dramatic Hebridean landscape.

The inside of the home is as impressive as the exterior. It boasts a wonderful mix of minimalist and rustic design, with many bespoke furnishings crafted from natural materials like driftwood that washed up on the island’s shores. At the heart of the home is the main living space, which features floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a comfy chaise sofa, where guests can sit back and enjoy panoramic sea vistas. You’ll also find a TV with Sky and a log-burning stove sat on a stunning gneiss rock fireplace, ideal for cosy evenings in. And when it’s time to eat, you can make use of the high-end kitchen to prepare a delicious meal, perhaps using some of the isle's exceptional produce.

The bedroom is a real highlight of the property. Guests can savour a long and uninterrupted night's sleep on the sumptuous king size bed and then wake up to an unforgettable view each morning. Leading on from the bedroom is a large bathroom with a deep freestanding bath, perfect for a relaxing soak. There’s also a separate wet space for anyone who prefers a power shower and delightful ‘his and hers’ sinks anchored on gorgeous slate slabs. There’s plenty of outside space for guests to enjoy in the warmer months and soak up the surroundings.

The Isle of Harris is known for its extraordinary scenery. Pristine beaches - some of the finest in Britain, particularly along the island’s West Coast – mountains, lochs, moorlands and castles are all waiting to be discovered. It is also a prime location for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, teeming with rare wildlife such as eagles, peregrines, otters and red deer. If you fancy a drink and a bite to eat, or need to stock up on holiday supplies, you can visit one of the many small and charming villages, each with its own unique character.
