The details

Set quietly within the working landscape of Trerethern Farm, these adults-only shepherd’s huts offer a calm, grown-up escape that feels wonderfully removed, even during Cornwall’s busier seasons. Thoughtfully positioned to make the most of wide estuary views and open skies, this is a place to slow down, breathe deeply and settle into the rhythms of farm life.

Each hut has been hand-built locally by Cornish makers Pumphrey & Weston, using traditional craftsmanship and natural materials that sit easily within their rural surroundings. The design is simple, warm and considered, blending understated luxury with a relaxed, unfussy feel that lets the landscape take centre stage.

Inside, the huts are beautifully self-contained and cleverly designed for comfort. There’s a welcoming double bed dressed in quality linen, an ensuite bathroom with a powerful Mira shower and heated towel rail, and smart storage that keeps the space feeling open and uncluttered. The bespoke kitchen features oak worktops, a hob and an Everhot stove, which doubles as both a heat source and a characterful way to cook, making evenings in feel especially cosy.

Large windows frame peaceful estuary views, with a fold-down dining table and stools perfectly placed for slow breakfasts or supper as the light changes outside. Thoughtful extras include Cornishware crockery, local oil, sea salt and pepper, locally sourced tea and coffee and milk from south west dairies that support fair farming practices.

Step outside and the pace drops another notch. Each hut has space to sit and soak up the views, soft ambient lighting after dark and a bespoke cast iron fire pit that’s ideal for cooking, keeping warm or stargazing on clear nights. Optional extras can shape your stay further, from farm-fresh breakfast boxes to chilled bottles of Camel Valley Brut waiting on arrival.

Stays here can be as quiet or as immersive as you choose. You might simply unwind with long walks and evenings by the fire, or time your visit to coincide with seasonal farm feasts, kitchen garden experiences or BBQ workshops that celebrate the land and the food it produces.

The huts sit just a 25-minute scenic walk across public fields from Padstow, where a pretty harbour, beautiful beaches and a standout food scene await. You also have private access to the Saints Way footpath, linking Padstow to Little Petherick and onwards to Fowey, with buses close by for exploring further afield.
