The details

Hidden deep within a magical East Devon glade, Colwell Wood Lodge is a breathtaking contemporary hideaway where glass, timber and wild woodland live in perfect harmony. Sleeping eight, this architectural retreat offers a wonderful escape from the moment you step onto the private track and enter your own secluded slice of nature. Morning light floods through vast windows, roe deer wander quietly between the trees and the whisper of leaves becomes the soundtrack to a stay that balances luxury and wilderness in the most enchanting way.

Inside, the lodge is all about expansive living and uninterrupted views. The open plan kitchen and dining room is designed for slow mornings and long evenings, with huge glass doors that pull back to blend the inside and outside seamlessly. You’ll gather around the table after woodland walks, wander out for alfresco breakfasts or return with a glass of wine as sunlight fades through the trees. The living room is irresistibly cosy, with a giant sofa made for sinking into after adventures along the Jurassic Coast. A dedicated utility room keeps things practical, while the sheltered patio outside the kitchen is home to the steaming hot tub – the perfect end to a day spent exploring East Devon’s glorious countryside.

The bedrooms are all wonderfully calm, each having large windows that frame picture-perfect woodland scenes. The master king room is a dream, with a walk-in wardrobe, fitness mirror and luxurious ensuite. Across the corridor, a sweet twin room makes an ideal nest for children. In the opposite wing, two further king size bedrooms offer serene woodland views, one with its own ensuite and the other next to the stylish family bathroom. Wake early, stay wrapped in blankets and savour that first coffee as birds stir across the canopy outside – a moment of pure magic.

Outside, acres of woodland invite exploration, play and peaceful wandering. There’s plenty of outdoor living space, lawn games and quiet corners for reading or daydreaming. Despite feeling worlds away, you’re just a short drive from Honiton, Dalwood and some excellent local pubs, plus the beaches and iconic scenery of the Jurassic Coast.

Whether you’re here with family or friends, this spectacular woodland lodge promises a stay filled with wonder, tranquillity and that unmistakeable feeling of escape.
