The details
Nestled high in the treetops of a stunning Dorset forest, Dazzle Treehouse is a truly unique, RIBA award-winning architectural gem which has to be visited to be appreciated. Inspired by battleship camouflage and decorated with a nautical theme inside and out, Dazzle Treehouse is a property unlike any other, available for couples and single travellers to rent on a self-catered basis. Access to the treehouse is via a traditional gangplank, the first of many subtle nods to the sea and ships which give Dazzle such charm and character. Once you enter the house proper, you'll find yourself in a light timber-clad space, which combines open air and enclosed spaces to create a sense of airiness and comfort. As well as a king sized bed, there is also a cargo-net style day bed, and a hammock, as well as a number of quirky and pleasing features throughout. A metal hot tub is housed on the main deck, offering views straight up of the starry skies at night. This 'rear deck' is accessed via the kitchen. which is entirely functional, meaning you don't have to compromise on food and luxuries just because you're suspended in the canopies. As well as the conventional cooking facilities you'd expect, there is also a barbecue and a wood-fired pizza oven. Back in the main living space, a wood-burning stove provides comfort to the rooms either side, a sleek and light living room, and the cosy bedroom with its forest views. You'll also find a shower-room here, with piping hot water and full plumbing. Dazzle Treehouse is a dreamy, perfect spot for woodlands enthusiast. By day and night, hear only the rush of the wind in the trees and the calling of rare birds. Watch the sun rise and set, and observe the stars with exceptional clarity from any number of spots in the treehouse. Most guests choose to remain on the site, taking in the extraordinary architecture and taking a break from the stresses of urban life. That said, for guests wanting to venture further afield, there are a number of excellent activities nearby. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage café is a must-visit, both for exceptionally good food, expertly cooked using local seasonal ingredients, and to pick up provisions from the attached deli. Alternatively, take the 2.2 mile stroll through the woodlands to The Tytherleigh Arms, a fantastic local pub with great roasts, a brilliant atmosphere, and Otter Ales on top. If you make the quick trip to coastal Lyme Regis for the day, the Harbour Inn is a wonderful pub with amazing fresh seafood.
