The details
Set within a once-derelict cluster of agricultural buildings, this striking collection of eco-lofts is the result of a deeply personal and design-driven vision. Discovered at auction in 2017 by husband-and-wife team Colin and Linh, the site has been carefully transformed into a sustainable, wellness-focused retreat that celebrates reuse, creativity and thoughtful modern living. What was once a jumble of asbestos-clad barns, abandoned vehicles and overgrown brambles is now a beautifully cohesive destination, where each unit has its own distinct personality while sharing a strong architectural language. Yellow, Rusty, Stainless and Blue sit side by side, unified by bold industrial forms, natural materials and an uncompromising commitment to low-impact design. Each loft is formed within a reimagined agricultural structure, embracing dramatic double-height volumes, polished concrete floors and exposed blockwork. Colour plays a leading role here. From the sunshine-yellow kitchen of the Yellow loft to the oxidised steel walls of Rusty, the cool metallic sheen of Stainless and the rich blue tones of Blue, every space feels individual, expressive and confidently designed. Sleeping between two and four guests, the lofts are ideal for couples, friends or small families. King size beds sit on mezzanines overlooking the living spaces below, while clever additional sleeping areas, including playful beach-hut-style bunks, make the layouts flexible without ever feeling compromised. Designer furniture, carefully considered lighting and tactile finishes create interiors that feel both gallery-worthy and genuinely comfortable. Sustainability runs through every detail. A fabric-first approach underpins the entire development, with timber frames from responsibly managed forests, recycled wood fibre insulation and airtight construction delivering impressive comfort year-round. Air source heat pumps and MVHR systems quietly regulate temperature and air quality, while triple glazing keeps the spaces calm and insulated. These are buildings designed to feel good to stay in, as well as to tread lightly on the land. Outside, private terraces invite slow mornings and long evenings, while shared landscaped grounds open out into meandering paths, wildflower meadows and a natural swimming pond. It’s a place to disconnect, breathe deeply and reconnect with nature, without giving up design, comfort or character. This is not just a place to stay, but a bold example of what thoughtful rural reuse can become. From big-sky countryside to wild coastline, rural East Sussex is made for slow exploring and spontaneous adventures. Spend your days wandering ancient woodland and rolling farmland, or follow winding lanes to hidden vineyards, farm shops and characterful country pubs. Head south for bracing walks along the cliffs of the Seven Sisters, beachcombing at Camber Sands or swimming in quiet coves along the coast. History lovers can explore ruined abbeys, smugglers’ towns and medieval castles, while foodies will find everything from coastal seafood shacks to destination dining tucked away in villages. Whether you’re hiking, cycling, swimming or simply mooching with a coffee in hand, East Sussex rewards curiosity at every turn.
