The details
Hidden away in its own arboretum, looking out towards the South Wales coast, you will find Hide. Around 25 minutes from Cardiff, this pretty setting is the home of the Hide Cabans – a trio of cosy, handmade cabins with both sea views and a touch of serenity.
Each spacious Caban has its own terrace with a barbecue and fire pit for a little camp-style dining. You will be warmed up inside too, with a wood-burner heating the whole place – and a lovely hot water shower in the bathroom, situated steps away in a shepherd’s hut.
The furnishings fit perfectly with the feel of the place. You have a double bed dressed with duvet, electric blanket and warm woollen blankets, and a kitchenette takes care of your cooking needs with a mini-oven and hob, and a fridge freezer.
For breakfast you can order Croissants that can be delivered to your accommodation in the morning, can be ordered the night before. They will be delivered at your preferred time in a hide bag including four croissants, butter and marmalade, the cost is £6.50.
The remote location is all part of the beauty of Hide, but you won’t have to drive too far to find some recommended restaurants and bars. The heritage coast of South Wales is a rewarding area to visit, perfect for peaceful, contemplative walks along the rugged cliffs. The Vale of Glamorgan, of which the hamlet of St Donats is a part, is full of history too. The pretty village of Llantwit Major is nearby, a settlement dating back over 1500 years. At certain times, St Donat’s Castle opens its doors to the public, and a one-of-a-kind arts centre can be found in the grounds, with regular performances in its inspiring ‘glass room’.
Other local attractions include the beaches of Llantwit Major, Dunraven, Porthcawl and the beautiful Bryngarw Country Park in Bridgend. Just home from a lovely few days at Hide. Stayed in a Caban and it was absolutely wonderful. It was a first for me to have a separate kitchen and bathroom to the bedroom / living space but it worked. We absolutely loved the place. We couldn't have felt more safe, and the place was immaculate and clean. Paula & Richard were both lovely, couldn't have been more friendly and Paula went out of her way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We will definitely be heading back as soon as we can.
