The details

Spacious and modern, this former mill keeper’s cottage has been transformed into a gorgeous holiday home that sleeps up to nine people in pure comfort. Incorporating the original cottage into the contemporary space, this holiday home has plenty of room for you and your loved ones to spread out and socialise in style. And, with its location nestled on the banks of Norfolk’s River Ant, you have the Norfolk Broads right on your doorstep.

The property sits down a private road, on a tranquil bend of the River Ant. The house has been designed to make best use of the wonderful natural surroundings, ensuring you are presented with incredible views of the countryside from every window. The property boast stunning double height windows on both sides of the house offering picture perfect views of the original water mill in the garden on one side and the extensive wetland meadows on the other. The super-stylish, contemporary design of the outside of this property is matched inside, with open spaces, natural light, and modern touches aplenty. The property has also won a number of awards including the RIBA Manser Medal in 2010 for Best New House In UK. It also featured in the Channel 4 programme Grand Designs: House of The Year.

The light wood and glass construct of the house makes the whole interior feel airy and spacious with a free-flowing sense of harmony. The fully equipped kitchen with a large breakfast island and all the modern facilities you’d expect, including a double oven, induction hob and two full height fridges plus a utility room attached, opens onto a gorgeous dual-aspect living and dining area with double height spaces and stunning feature windows on both sides with a central fireplace serving both rooms. The original cottage houses the cosy “snug” with its original fireplace and Norfolk Winder staircase which provides a secretive second access to the back bedroom on the upper floor.

A fully restored original 17th century water pumping mill stands within the large garden with its ample parking and its long, open-river frontage with wetland meadows and farmland on all sides. The tranquility and serenity of the setting allow for a range of bird and wildlife to settle as neighbours, from the resident otters in the riverbank to the visiting marsh harriers. Despite being situated in the Broads National Park area, the property allows easy access to a huge range of activities including walking, cycling, boating, golf and walking as well as being only 30 minutes drive from the historic city of Norwich with its famous castle, beautiful cathedral and extensive shopping. The nearest beach with its miles of sand and huge dunes is just 10 minutes away and the surrounding area is rich with National Trust properties.
