The details

Relax and unwind in one of these three gorgeous, bespoke, hand-crafted Shire houses. With striking, wooden exteriors and their idyllic location in a beautiful meadow overlooking the Wiltshire hills, these three properties offer small groups a perfect rural retreat. Spot deer at sunset as you drink wine and relax in your own private hot tub water well, or try your hand at one of a number of bookable activities during your stay, including archery, painting, disc golf and spa treatments.

Each of the three houses - Bramble Wood, Willow Wood and Oak Wood - is surrounded by an abundance of plant and wildlife, making them perfect for nature lovers. Each of the houses even has its own naturally flowering roof that changes throughout the year and further enhances the insect population. Stepping inside, the houses have beautiful wooden floors and log burners to keep you nice and cosy.

The nicely equipped kitchens feature butler sinks, dishwashers and Nespresso coffee machines for that all-important morning coffee. The kitchens also have bespoke units that give the space its truly rustic, rural charm. Once you've prepared a delicious meal you can dine on the gorgeous, hand carved dining table before getting comfy by the fire on the sofa or in a lovely arm chair. As well as the hearty gas stoves in the living rooms, the houses also feature underfloor heating to ensure you're nice and cosy all-year-round. Before bed, why not go for a relaxing soak in the water well hot tub? Or sit and work your way through the selection of board games that are on offer. There's also free WiFi at Shire Houses for those of you who don't wish to fully disconnect during your stay.

When it comes to bed time, each Shire House features two luxurious bedrooms that sit at the rear of the house. You have the option to have a twin and a double bedroom, or two double bedrooms offering plenty of flexibility. The bedrooms feature solid, wood-framed beds with comfy mattresses and windows offering views outside. You also have your own wet room that is nicely styled and features a walk-in shower, a WC and an ornate wash basin.

Stepping back outside, each house has its own private courtyard that houses the hot tub. Also out here you have a nice seating area as well as a BBQ, which offers you the chance to indulge in some alfresco cooking when the weather's warm. After you've enjoyed some tasty grilled food, why not try your hand at one of the outdoor shire games? Be sure to challenge your loved ones to a game of ring toss or croquet.

If you want to head out and explore the area, you have some of the most glorious green and rolling British countryside on your doorstep. You're situated in the idyllic Top and Bottom Water Meadows, surrounded by organic pastures, streams, ancient oak trees and historic hedgerows. You will also have access to some beautiful footpaths and trails once used by Wiltshire’s famous highwayman Thomas Boulter. So be sure to bring your walking boots and venture out on foot. Other nice attractions nearby include Longleat Safari Park, Stonhenge, Castle Combe, Avebury and Caen Hill Locks.

Warm welcome and was as good as the pictures. Great for lovers of the hobbit or lord of the rings. Only criticism was nowhere handy to put your drinks in the hot tub the shelf is too high and not big enough for more than two people. We had a great stay, comfy bed and lovely fresh eggs from the chickens. Plenty for children to do around the site. Ideally located for a day trip into bath. Loved the fact you can do archery and alpaca walking on site. If the weather was better we would of had a go at the frisbee golf. Cottage was perfect size for 4 adults with everything you need. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.
