The details

Tucked away on a country estate near the rolling Sussex Downs, luxurious and eco-friendly Tack Barn is the perfect romantic getaway for two.

Overlooking a pond and with the quiet woods and gardens of the private estate surrounding, you couldn't find a more tranquil spot than this little waterside haven.

Inside is beautifully styled, filled with light and with luxurious and thoughtful touches. It has a spacious kitchen/living area that is flooded with light thanks to the vast glass French windows that open straight onto a wraparound deck. In the kitchen you’ll find modern appliances and everything you need to take advantage of the amazing produce available nearby.

The living area features a log burner and deep sofas where you can sit back and watch the day unfold over the kind of large pond you only ever find next to really nice houses.

The bedroom is full of thoughtful touches that make the biggest difference - for example, the Egyptian cotton sheets on the king size bed are line dried. Even more French windows open out onto the deck so you can even sit in bed and admire the view of that pond. The bathroom features a double-ended bath, towels are organic cotton, and they even supply candles if you need some extra help relaxing.

Outside there is a dining area next to the kitchen and a fire-pit for when the evenings take a chill. The woodland garden is perfect for a walk, and residents are welcome to stroll in the main garden and watch the sun set from the jetty.

If that all sounds too relaxing, you're spoilt for choice with places to visit nearby. The lovely town of Lewes is just a few miles away, with its cafés, pubs and antiques markets. A famously creative region, you’ll find numerous paintings, sculptures and crafts from local contemporary artists filling the walls and adorning the shelves of the Barn itself.

You can stroll the South Downs, see the Bloomsbury Group's art at Charleston, visit the famous white cliffs of the Seven Sisters, or spend the day pottering in the lanes of Brighton.

Tack Barn is perfectly located for a trip to the opera at Glyndebourne. The owners can arrange a picnic kit to take with you and can also recommend plenty of places where you can fill your hamper up with local food and wine.

Tack Barn is fantastic - it is cosy, well furnished to a high standard and the owners have thought of everything. The owner is very friendly and so helpful and knowledgeable about the area. There is so much to do and see culturally and magnificent walks on the downs. A must stay. We hope to be back if only to swim in the pond when its not iced over!!!!!

What a dream it was staying in the barn! Impeccably furnished and designed with everything you could need for a few days away - I’d recommend this in a heartbeat. Corina was lovely to deal with and I especially loved the little touches like eggs and juice and bread on arrival, and a booklet with all the local things to do and see (which they’ve also turned into a handy Google highlight). The surroundings are beautiful and you feel like you’re worlds away, while only being a 15-20 minute drive into Bohemian Lewes. We came by train and it was surprisingly easy to get taxis to and from, although we hardly wanted to leave the cabin at all! I will definitely be back.
