The details

Whether having a cosy winter's night in or enjoying the summer sunshine, The Little House in the Wye Valley is a perfect getaway for all seasons. The property, as the name suggests, is quaint in size but more than makes up for that in clever design. Speaking of design, the owners have lovingly created this space with the Danish word ‘hygge’ in mind. Hygge is a Norwegian and Danish word for the mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people.

Guests enter into the charming open plan living area, complete with a comfy leather sofa sitting in front of the wood burner, offering you the perfect cosy night in. There's also an endless stock of logs to make sure you never get cold. The owners have really tried to create an all-year-round space with lots of little touches to help you get in the moment. Cwtch up with your loved one in the double cocoon and gaze at the sky through the oak branches. The space can be nicely lit with candles, as you watch the birds fight over the food that we leave. Be sure to play board games, remembering how to knit with the wool and wooden needles, before sitting round the fire snuggled in a blanket.

There's also a dining table and chairs in the living space, and a well equipped kitchen which has everything you'll need for preparing culinary delights. Cook up some locally sourced ingredients and enjoy a meal in with a bottle of wine. A shower room can also be found on this level and there is WiFi throughout for those of you who need to keep up with your emails during your stay.

The downstairs living space is stylish, and has a minimal design, that makes great use of the available space. Whitewashed walls are complimented by some hand selected pieces of art, as well as some trinkets and other bits and pieces on the shelves.

A short walk up the quirky narrow wooden staircase leads to the mezzanine bedroom, which is nice and bright in the daytime thanks to plenty of natural light, and a minimal white design. Here there is a king size bed with organic sheets, offering a comfy night's sleep, and there is also a separate en suite toilet, for ease of access in the night.

French doors lead into the enclosed garden area and when opened up bring the outside in on those warm, sunny days. Out here guests can relax even further in the two person cocoon seat that hangs from the giant oak tree and has cushions and blankets for extra comfort. A small fire pit ensures this space can be enjoyed well into the evening.

The Little House is ideally located for getting out and about and exploring both the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. There are several beautiful walking and bike trails to be discovered right on the doorstep suiting all needs, from those who want a pleasant stroll to those who want to hike up the hills. Alternatively enjoy wild swimming in the River Wye itself, or hire a canoe and take in the spectacular surroundings without getting quite as wet.

For those who want to enjoy the food and drink on offer in the area, why not head to The Wild Hare, located just 2 miles away in Tintern? The Ostrich at Newland is also worth a visit, as is the nearby Kingstone Brewery.

The ideal getaway! The Little House is in the perfect location for a relaxing and secluded escape. There are numerous walks nearby, but we could have spent the whole weekend cosied up by the huge log burner.
