You should know
- Two well-behaved dogs are allowed at an additional charge of £10 per dog.
- Access to the property is via a three mile Forestry Commission track. The road surface can be poor at times so please drive carefully. Four-wheel drive vehicles may be required in the winter months.

Enjoy the remote location of Kidlandlee in the heart of Northumberland National Park at The Old Barn. With the sky overhead that is renowned for stargazing and the rolling hills surrounding the property, this converted barn is situated on a 12th Century site which was also once home to the highest shooting lodge in England at 1400 feet above sea level.
Sleeping four guests across two bedrooms, The Old Barn was painstakingly rebuilt in the 19th Century using original stone salvaged from the site. After entering into the hallway those staying are greeted by a holiday home that is modern and stylish, while still maintaining its traditional charm. The open plan living room and kitchen is the social hub, with a feature floor to ceiling window offering spectacular views across the hills of the Upper Coquet Valley beyond. A comfy double sofa and two armchairs sit in front of the flat screen TV and wood burning stove, while the kitchen is well equipped with granite work surfaces, gas hob, oven, large fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine.
The Old Barn prides itself on its ethos of sustainable living, with logs for the fire from nearby forests, solar and wind power, and fresh water supplied by its own bore hole. There is a king size bedroom with another feature window to really feel at one with nature, with a further twin with zip and link beds that can be turned into a king if required. There is also a family bathroom with shower over the bath. Further flexibility is provided by the fact that inner-connecting doors link to the neighbouring Leyland Barn should a bigger group be staying.
Outside there is an enclosed garden to the front of the property with outdoor furniture and a barbecue can be provided in the summer months. For walkers and cyclists there are many trails to explore that begin right on the doorstep. The Kidland Forest and Upper Coquetdale in particular offers a great looped route that takes in many woodland and riverside tracks. There are also great opportunities for climbing at Simonstone, while for those who want to take it a little easier why not stroll to the nearby village of Alwinton and enjoy a drink at the Rose and Thistle pub.
The slower pace of life and vibrant energy of the hills soothes the mind, body and soul during your stay. With this in mind, the owners along with Nichola Lawson from Harmony Spa have designed a new dedicated Holistic Healing Cabin offering a wide range of treatments from aromatherapy massage to angel reiki for you to enjoy during your stay. This charming, rrustic, wooden cabin is heated using wind felled logs, which creates a warm and inviting space in-keeping with the ‘green’ ethos and enhancing a sense of well-being whilst at Kidlandlee.

To put this in perspective, I would rate this location and accommodation just slightly behind our Maldives stay! If you love peace, quiet, nature, walking and top quality accommodation this is the place for you. Fixtures and fittings all top quality, and the Barn was spotlessly clean. There was a welcome pack for us and the dog :-) Driving to and from the highway was "interesting" but we took it at a slow pace and got to see loads of wildlife - lambs, horses, all manner of birdlife including pheasants and heron, hares. The owners also hung birdfeeders in the garden which provided more entertainment than the TV. I had a spa treatment by Nichola in The Cabin on site and would highly recommend her. The seaside and Kielder Forest and Water were all in striking distance but our favourite day out was to Druridge country Park. If you are thinking of booking here, do, you won't regret it

What an amazing stay. I don't think you can display how beautiful this place is with pictures. If you're looking to be walking distance to the pub this place would probably not suit you but if you're looking for stunning views and a break from busy lives this would be the ideal location. Plenty of walking routes and close to tourist attractions. The cottage felt as if no one stayed in it before. Very clean, all items brand new. Beautifully decorated. We absolutely loved it!
