Woodcock Cabin is an off-grid cabin in the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales that sleeps two. Set on an idyllic 38 acre slice of private land, the property has no true neighbours other than the charming local wildlife. Ideal for nature lovers, the property is home to walks that take guests through serene forests and along waterfalls and rivers. Closer to the cabin, you'll find a campfire pit complete with a cooking plate and tripod, ideal for guests with a knack for whipping up meals by the fireside.
Guests looking to soak away their troubles will love the property's wood-fired hot tub, too - also noteworthy is the onsite stargazing net, which makes enjoying the crystal clear Welsh night skies a total breeze. Inside the Cabin, the decor is both rustic and authentically Welsh and creates an air of gentle tranquility that makes it also impossible not to relax.
As an off-grid property, Woodcock Cabin does not have a flushing toilet or fully-equipped kitchen. Instead, guests will have access to a composting toilet complete with stunning views of the property. Onsite bathing facilities are also located outside in the form of a hot water rain shower. Cooking facilities include the Cabin's handbuilt kitchenette with chiller box, gas camping hob and Belfast sink.
Guests who enjoy cooking outside will also be pleased to find that the property is home to a lovely BBQ. Heating inside the cabin is provided by a hearty log burner, so guests will need to make sure their fire-starting skills are up to par before their trip! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. A completely different take on the idea of 'luxury'. On paper, the idea of an off-grid cabin seems quite basic; solar electricity enough for lighting and not much more, camping-style gas powered cooking facilities, and spring fed running cold water. But there is no doubt Woodcock Cabin is completely luxurious; cosy heat inside from the log-burner, a consistently hot outdoor shower, and all the wood you could ever need for fabulous firepit cooking and the glorious hot tub under a big sky. The cabin itself is beautifully crafted, comfortable, well appointed, and of course in a simply stunning location. On top of that, the attention to detail in furnishing and the little touches was absolutely spot on - locally hand made pottery pieces and ironmongery, comfy rugs and throws, games and books, local guides and maps, all the essentials you'd expect (from candles to cooking equipment and everything besides), and the "Crate of Convenience" is a nice touch for anything you might have forgotten to pack (or if, like us, you run out of wine on the last night...). Recommendations from the owners for a pottery lesson and a meal out at Y Ffarmers were good shouts too, thoroughly enjoyed both. Our first trip (Sept 23) was a 'mini-moon' after getting married - I have a strong suspicion it won't be our last visit. The perfect bolthole to escape from busy real lives for a few days.
